L.A. Standard Camera Club March meeting recap

Camera Club

Thank you to everybody who was able to make the first camera club meeting, and for those who were unable to attend, we look forward to meeting you at the April meeting.  I was extremely excited with the turnout, and I have received a lot of positive feedback.  We had a really good mix of photographers, videographers, filmakers, editors, and people who do this as a hobby.

Jeff Lewis, Los Angeles Rams team photographer, did an outstanding job with his presentation and it was great to see the attendees being extremely engaged with the topics of photography and videography.  Please follow him on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/Jeff-Lewis-Photography-323285400168/) and Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/jjlewis06/).

I’ve attached a video that Leroy Hamilton created from the meeting.  I’m trying to learn as much from him as possible, because he’s a great photographer who added video to his repertoire, and he’s creating some amazing work.  Follow his work on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/photoham/).  Also follow Jevone Moore’s work.  He created a media company called Full Image 360, and he’s highly recognizable on television at sporting events with his orange shirts.  Find him on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/fullimage360/) and Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/FullImage360/).  And follow Karim Saafir on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/karimsaafirphotography/) and Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/karims123/)  For video, follow Gary Clarke's GotChaDigi on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/gary_gotchadigi/) and Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/gotchadigi/

I have created a Facebook group page where we can communicate with each other, express ideas, ask questions, and post photographers and videos.  https://www.facebook.com/groups/2045952435644667/

One point that was made to me after the meeting was that it may have been a little intimidating to people who are novices and do not have much knowledge about photography and videography terms.  I want to make sure that everybody, no matter their knowledge level, can get something great out of this club.  So we need to figure out ways to keep everybody engaged.  While I do know photography well, when somebody starts talking about video, I get lost quickly.  So I can understand how a person can feel when the conversation starts getting technical.  Seeing that we are trying to produce profound work, at times we will have to get technical, so it’s important to bring everybody up to speed quickly.

As of right now, we’re meeting on the third Tuesday of the month, making the next meeting April 17.  I will confirm with the managers of The L.A. Alpha House that we can get that date.  As for a planning committee, please contact me if you are interested in joining.  I’ll set a date for Friday evening, April 6 for that meeting.

Please reach out to me with any comments or questions.  Or post them in the Facebook group.  If you’re not on the email list, email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to be added.  Click here for this month's photo/video assignment.
