The city of Inglewood has seen massive changes during Mayor James Butts’ tenure. Many residents are enjoying the resurgence that the city is having, but many people question if the long-term residents are benefitting from the massive amount of revenue that’s passing through Sofi Stadium and the soon to be built Clippers arena.
On this election ballot will be the seats for mayor, Council District 1, and Council District 2. Butt’s (www.joinjamesbutts.com) is running for re-election, and he will be challenged by Miya Walker (www.miyaformayor.com), Fredrisha "Sha" Dixon (www.fredrishadixon.com), Angelique Johnson (www.inglewoodstrong.org), Raina Carrillo (www.rainaforinglewood.com), and Chika Ogoke.
Councilman George Dotson has six challengers for his First District seat. Dotson’s challengers are Yolanda Davidson (www.yd4district1.com), Taj Powell (www.tajpowell.com), Gloria Gray (www.gloriagray4citycouncil.com), Leonard Redway (www.redway4council.com), Alena Cindy Giardina, and Kevin Taylor.
In Council District 2, Councilman Alex Padilla will be challenged by Bobby Brown (www.votebobbybrown.com).
Several of the challengers of these three seats recently participated in an Inglewood Candidate Forum at All In Coworking of Inglewood. The event was in partnership with Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. Beta Psi Lambda Chapter (Los Angeles) and Pi Rho Lambda Chapter (Inglewood), and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Theta Mu Omega Chapter (Inglewood) and Mu Beta Omega Chapter (Inglewood). The forum can be viewed on Facebook by searching for “ALL IN Coworking of Inglewood - Live Events.” Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.’s Inglewood Alumnae Chapter also held a candidate’s forum.
