Assemblymember Sebastian Ridley-Thomas has put a focus on making his community healthier, and he is going to bring out many community organizations and elected officials to assist him at the Crenshaw Health Fest, which will be held on Saturday, June 24, at the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Expanding access to quality healthcare is a top priority of mine,” Ridley-Thomas said at last year’s health fest. “That’s why I’ve put together the Crenshaw Health Fest, a fun, free event featuring health, vision and dental screenings and lots of great information that will help you stay healthy.”<\/span><\/p>\n

This event is held in conjunction with the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza’s weekly Farmers Market. Along with the health screenings, there will be fitness demonstrations, music, and more.<\/span><\/p>\n

Along side Ridley-Thomas at last year’s health fest were Los Angeles City Council President Herb Wesson, and Los Angeles City Councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson.<\/span><\/p>\n

“The beauty about what we’re doing here is that it shows that all of your government elected offices in the region not only like each other, we work together,” Wesson said. “Because we recognize that the more we do as a group, the more benefits that we can give to the people that we represent, and the people that we love.\u2028<\/span><\/p>\n

“Take advantage of this event, get some screenings done, because nothing at all is more valuable to you than your health.”<\/span><\/p>\n

At last year’s health fest, Harris-Dawson announced that the City Council passed legislation that requires farmers markets to accept EBT cards.<\/span><\/p>\n

“That just removes one more barrier that stands between our folks, and good healthy food, good organic food, fresh food, and the kind of food that we need to live healthy lifestyles for us and our families,” Harris-Dawson said. <\/span><\/p>\n

Also at last year’s event, Mark Ridley-Thomas gave acknowledgment to President Barak Obama’s health care law, which the County Supervisor said has led 900,000 people in Los Angels County to obtain health care insurance.<\/span><\/p>\n

“This is essentially your elected leadership affirming the very fundamental proposition that health care is a right and not a privilege,” Mark Ridley-Thomas said.<\/span><\/p>\n
