The July meeting was pretty awesome!  We started with a presentation about American Photographic Artists-Los Angeles (APA-LA) Director Desirae Lantry.  She spoke about the photography workshops, exhibits, and contests that the APA-LA has.  I attended their Instagram workshop last month, and I learned a few things to help grow the Standard’s web presence.  For more information about the organization, visit http:\/\/www.apa-la.org<\/a>. August meeting<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The August meeting will take place on Tuesday, August 21, at the L.A. Alpha House, 3712 W. 54th Street.  7 p.m. to 9 p.m.  Doors open at 6:30.<\/span><\/p>\n

August and September assignments<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

This will be a two part assignment.  Part one will be due in August, and part two will be for September.  <\/span><\/p>\n

\u2028For part one, select a community event or gathering and shoot it.  It can be a local festival, church service, community service event, party, athletic event.  Anything that brings people together in your community.  When taking photos and\/or video of the gatherings, use the composition rules that we’ve gone over, and use techniques that you already know.  This will be due at the August meeting.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2028For part two, the assignment is the same, except that you’ll chose a gathering outside of your community.  Los Angeles is a melting pot of many different cultures.  You won’t have to travel too far to find a community that’s dramatically different from yours.  This will be due at the September meeting.<\/span><\/p>\n
