This meeting will feature special presentations from photographers Von Thomas and Gail Oliver, and from APA-LA Director Desirae Lantry<\/span>.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

At the June meeting, Von Thomas gave an exciting presentation about his career as a digital image technician, and he spoke about a number of subjects, including the importance of shooting in raw, lighting, photo editing from software to calibrated computer screens.  He has volunteered to give 15-minute presentation at each meeting, where he’ll touch on technical aspects of photography.  Visit his website at http:\/\/thomaseditions.com\/<\/a>.  <\/span><\/p>\n

American Photographic Artists-Los Angeles (APA-LA) Director Desirae Lantry will give a presentation at the July meeting.  APA-LA hosts gallery shows, workshops, and contests.  For more information about the organization, visit http:\/\/www.apa-la.org<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Next month’s assignment<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

This will be a two part assignment.  Part one will be for this coming month, and part two will be for the following month.  <\/span><\/p>\n

For part one, select a community event or gathering and photograph it.  It can be a local festival, church service, community service event, party, athletic event.  Anything that brings people together in your community.  When taking photos and\/or video of the gatherings, use the composition rules that we’ve gone over, and use techniques that you already know.  This will be due at the August meeting.<\/span><\/p>\n

For part two, the assignment is the same, except that you’ll chose a gathering outside of your community.  Los Angeles is a melting pot of many different cultures.  You won’t have to travel too far to find a community that’s dramatically different from yours.  This will be due at the September meeting.<\/span><\/p>\n
