Wellness fair is held on May 26.<br \/><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-1054\" src=\"https:\/\/lastandardnewspaper.com\/staging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/EMM-Flyer-5x7-reduced-web.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"840\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lastandardnewspaper.com\/staging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/EMM-Flyer-5x7-reduced-web.jpg 600w, https:\/\/lastandardnewspaper.com\/staging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/EMM-Flyer-5x7-reduced-web-214x300.jpg 214w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Leimert Park will celebrate Mental Health Awareness Month during Memorial Day weekend with the &ldquo;Each Mind Matters In Leimert&rdquo; Wellness Fair, which is a free, public event.&nbsp; Produced by multimedia company Transmedia 360&deg;, the fair is sponsored in part by the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health and the Leimert Park Neighborhood Council.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Each Mind Matters is California&#8217;s mental health movement, which unites hundreds of organizations and millions of individuals to create a California where mental health is a priority and each mind truly matters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Leimert Park will join in the movement by offering a day of free holistic workshops, empowering discussions, support groups, health screenings as well as fun entertainment, healthy food trucks and children&rsquo;s activities on Saturday, May 26 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.&nbsp; Live stage performances such as; reggae, neo soul, pop, jazz and R&amp;B will be held on People Street in front of the Vision Theater.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">The fair&rsquo;s workshops and discussions will take place inside some local businesses within a block&rsquo;s radius.&nbsp; The Barbara Morrison Jazz &amp; Blues Museum will present a disability workshop on overcoming mental challenges, which will be hosted by Morrison, who will also grace the outdoor stage with a vocal performance. &nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">The WE CAN Foundation will host a Veteran&rsquo;s PTSD group.&nbsp; Next door, the newly opened Hot and Cool Caf&eacute; will offer a workshop on healing with herbal teas. &nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Martial arts dojo Youth N&rsquo; Motion will present free self-defense, Tai Chi,&nbsp; and Yoga classes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">The Spanish holistic health organization, Mujeres De Maiz, will present a workshop on relieving stress with herbal remedies for both the English and Hispanic communities. &nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">There will be plenty of giveaways including a complimentary meal for participants who partake in at least three activities at the event.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">The event&rsquo;s organizer, Nina Womack of Transmedia 360&deg; said, &ldquo;I decided to organize this event to help raise mental health awareness and provide alternative health solutions to the community.&nbsp; After overcoming my own psychological trauma from childhood sexual and physical abuse through natural healing methods without medications, my mission is to promote natural wellness to underserved communities.&nbsp; Thanks to the Department of Mental Health&rsquo;s grant and other support, we&rsquo;re able to offer this event that will truly benefit residents and help them take care of themselves and their families.&rdquo;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Local business partners providing services include: Black Women For Wellness is offering diabetes screenings and program information; NAMI Urban LA will offer family support group sessions; Community Build will provide gang prevention information; Lumos Transforms will offer stress reduction workshops; the Department of Mental Health will provide free community resources and giveaways; homeless agencies will be present to provide resources for housing and more; and media partner The Los Angeles Standard Newspaper will offer a free photography class.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Additional activities at the fair include: line dancing, arts therapy, sound therapy, aromatherapy, blood pressure checks, medical screenings, financial empowerment and disease prevention education.&nbsp; For more vendor, sponsor, volunteer and general information, call Womack at 323-371-6323 or email <a href=\"mailto:transmedia360@gmail.com\">transmedia360@gmail.com<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Free holistic workshops, entertainment and health screenings geared for the body, mind and soul.
