Local fine-art photographer Justin Jackson of J3 Collections was the presenter at the last Los Angeles Standard Newspaper Camera Club meeting. Jackson discussed his journey from working in real estate to following his passion in photography. He started out as a concert photographer, and he traveled the world as he worked with a number of A-list celebrities. He later opened his own studio, where he perfected his one-light source portrait photography style.

Jackson’s work is extremely important because, as he pointed out, many of his African American celebrity clients told him that most of the photographers that they worked with were not Black.
The camera club members enjoyed hearing about Jackson’s career, and his presentation was extremely beneficial to a few of the members who are up and coming concert photographers.

Jackson’s work can be viewed on his website, www.j3collecton.com, and view his work on Instagram. Also read about him in the Art section of the Standard’s website.

Photographer and club member Christopher Smith gave a presentation on time-lapse photography, which is this month’s assignment. A tutorial will be posted in the Camera Club section of the L.A. Standard’s website and in the camera club’s Facebook group.

The meeting closed with photos from last month’s photo editing assignment.

Visit the Camera Club section of the Standard’s website for tutorials, past assignments, and photo submissions.
