The Los Angeles Kingdom Day Parade
Monday, January 21, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.  ABC 7 broadcast begins at 11 a.m.
The Kingdom Day Parade is the largest and longest running Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. birthday celebration in the nation.  The parade starts at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Western Avenue, and heads west toward Crenshaw Boulevard, where it turns south and ends at Vernon Avenue.  Thousands of spectators line the streets and enjoy the floats and performances.


Inglewood Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Parade
Saturday, January 19, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The City of Inglewood will host its annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration with a Commemorative Service, Parade and King Fest.  The commemorative service will be held at The Tabernacle at 9 a.m.  The parade runs along Manchester Boulevard between Eucalyptus Avenue and Hillcrest Boulevard, and begins at 11 a.m.  The King Fest is on Market Street, and takes place from 11 a.m to 5 p.m.

 

Freedom Festival in Leimert Park Village

Monday, January 21, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Join thousands of folks along Degnan Blvd. in the historic Leimert Park Village to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a full community festival hosted by Councilmembers Marqueece Harris-Dawson and Curren Price, and Council President Herb Wesson. The Freedom Festival includes job opportunities, local merchants, city resources, mobile health units, and a mobile art exhibit.  Live entertainment this year includes three separate stages, hosted by KJLH, the Wave, and KDAY. Plus, there will be performances at Barbara Morrison Performing Art Center, the California Jazz and Blues Museum, Hot & Cool Cafe, and Kaos Network.
This year’s theme is “The Future is Ours,” and there will be several community organizations on hand with a focus on homelessness, protecting health care and the environment, as well as defend the rights of immigrants.

 

 

Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration at CAAM

Celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day by surrounding yourself with art, culture, and community at the California African American Museum.  Enjoy an array of vibrant programs and activities for all ages.  Bring the kids for art-making activities, a march, and delicious food truck fare; visit our exhibitions, hear a marathon reading of Dr. King’s lesser-known speeches and sermons, groove to DJ-provided tunes, and much more—free for everyone!  CAAM is located at 600 State Drive, Exposition Park.

MLK Day Service Event, Parade Watch, and Open House at the Metaphor Club
