December Camera Club Meeting, Tuesday the 18th

Photographer Valerie Goodloe

Camera Club

Recap from the November meeting; Long-exposure assignment; and downtown meetup.

By Jason Lewis

November meeting recap

Veteran celebrity and event photographer Valerie Goodloe was our guest speaker.  I was personally excited to hear her speak about her career, because every time I’m at a major Black event, she’s one of the premier photographers.  She spoke about traveling the world photographing then Senator Barack Obama as he was campaigning to become President.  She spoke about the major events and celebrities that she’s shot, and the obstacles that she had to overcome to make it to the top of the industry.

Assignment

Please submit the photos from the long-exposure assignment to me by Monday, December 17, so that I can make the slideshow.  Send them to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.  A link to the tutorial is below.

If you’ve been working on projects outside of the assignment and you’d like to show some photos, send them to me.  If we have enough time after we go over the long-exposure photos, we’ll take a look at those photos too.

December meeting

We’ll have a few presentations at the meeting, which will be held on Tuesday, December 18, 7-9 p.m. at the L.A. Alpha House.  3712 W. 54th Street.  Doors open at 6:30.

Charles Loeb will present his journey to obtain his long-exposure shot of downtown.  He started working on this before the assignment was given, and I’d say that he has a pretty cool story of trial and error, and then triumph.

Troy Tieul will do a presentation on the photo technique dragging the shutter.

I’m going to do a presentation on Adobe Lightroom presents.  I’ve been playing around with them, but I’m not an expert.  If any of you know Lightroom or photo editing very well, you’re more than welcome to give a tutorial.

Christopher Smith has proposed a photo meet up in downtown.  The idea at the moment is meeting at the Walt Disney Concert Hall on Grand and 1st.  There are a number of great spots to take photos there.  Then we’ll walk to the Angels Flight Railway, which is about three blocks away.  That will be another opportunity to capture some cool images.  We’ll take a ride down and end up at Grand Central Market, which is right across the street.  We’ll be able to get a lot of great food photography shots there.  We’ll have more details (date and time) at the meeting.
