August meeting recap

Last month we had two great presentations from Jevone Moore and Leroy Hamilton.  Both had similar messages, which is to explore photography with the equipment that you have, continue shooting to get better, and upgrade your equipment as you go.  But you do not need the most expensive equipment as you’re starting out.

Moore spoke about how he started photography as a hobby, and turned that into starting his own media company where he also produces videos and writes articles.

Hamilton showcased his still photography and videos, and he emphasized that you should always be working on something.  It’s not all about your past work.  You should always be moving forward to get better.

September meeting

Our presenter for the September meeting will be club member Troy Tieuel.  Troy is a journalist, photographer, and illustrator.  He’s worked for the Los Angeles Sentinel as a production designer (laying out the newspaper) and photographer, and as a photo editor at Heart & Soul Magazine.  He is an expert in Adobe software, including InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.  When I was in the development stages of creating the Los Angeles Standard Newspaper, Troy gave me lessons in InDesign so that I could layout the newspaper.  He posts his photos often in the Los Angeles Standard Newspaper Camera Club Facebook group page.

Assignments

The last two assignments were shooting community gatherings.  For August, it was gatherings in your community.  For September, it was gatherings outside of your community.  We didn’t get to the slide show at last month’s meeting because the presentations were going so well.  I still have those photos.  If you have taken photos for the second part of the assignment, please send those to me today so that I can add those to the slide show.
