The men of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. will be hosting community service events at their 73rd Twelfth District Meeting, which will be held at the Westin Hotel in Long Beach, May 3-6.

The Twelfth District, which encompasses the western states of the U.S., will host a career fair and youth programs that will be open to the public.  These community service events will be held on Saturday, May 5.

The career fair will match job seekers with local and national employers.  Business attire is highly recommended, because job interviews will be conducted on the spot.  Also, bring resumes.  The career fair will take place from 9 a.m. to noon.  Contact George Lee at gleeomega22@gmail for more information.

More than 6,000 boys have been mentored through Omega Psi Phi’s Youth Leadership Conference, which began in 1993 as a response to the 1992 Los Angeles Uprising.  The yearly event typically takes place on the campus of USC, and this year it will be brought to the district meeting.

Boys ages 12-18 will participate in the free mentoring program from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“We decided to put together a program to assist young males; to keep them off the streets, and encourage them to take care of their community,” Ricky Lewis said.  “We have sessions where we talk to them about personal responsibility, manhood 101, chivalry is not dead, listen to your parents, getting good grades and going off to college.”

Many of the boys who have participated in the program over the years have gone on to college, and a number of them have joined the fraternity.
